Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) will get a PARAM supercomputer of 833 TF (Tera Flops) HPC (excessive efficiency computing) methods by September this year. It would be the first supercomputer in Bihar.
The IIT-P and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a central authorities physique, on Tuesday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishing the supercomputer underneath the Centre’s National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
An identical supercomputer (of 833 TF) was lately put in at IIT-BHU and different 4 (of 833 TF) are proposed to be put in at IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Mandi and NIT-Trichy.
The MoU was signed by Prof T N Singh, Director, IIT-Patna and Shri E Magesh, Director General (DG) C-DAC in presence of the nodal officer Prof Somanath Tripathy, Dr Snehasis Das Chakraborty and group of C-DAC officers.
“As per the MoU, the supercomputer will be commissioned at IIT-Patna’s Bihta based campus by September this year. Its infrastructure will be based on Rudra server which is indigenously designed, manufactured and assembled in India in line with one of the ambitious initiatives “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”. This facility will improve the analysis and growth (R&D) of the IIT Patna in addition to the opposite organisations within the jap half of India,” the IIT-P spokesperson Kripa Shankar Singh instructed TOI on Tuesday.
“The objective of national supercomputing mission (NSM) is to empower technology institutions with high performing computing facility which can be used in various applications including artificial intelligence, cyber security, computational dynamics, weather modelling, disaster recovery, drug discovery, molecular dynamics, machine learning etc,” a C-DAC official stated.
The C-DAC director common E Magesh expressed his gratitude in the direction of IIT-Patna for all assist and stated, “This initiative will go a long way for the students and researchers in creating useful software and solutions for path breaking outcomes.”
Prof T N Singh, Director IIT-Patna, stated that this supercomputer could be a milestone and it might improve excessive-stage of information computation for varied functions.
