The Delhi government in its latest price range has introduced to arrange 12 new Schools of Applied Learning (SoAL) from the tutorial 12 months 2023-24. As of now, 548 Delhi government faculties offer vocational subjects like Information Technology, Data Science, Food Technology, Financial Markets, and many extra. These 12 faculties could be constructed as half of the pilot undertaking of the Delhi government and the prevailing faculties would even be transformed to SoAL later.
Speaking to Education Times, Indu Dalal, lecturer at DoE, says, “The Delhi government has decided to set up SoALs in the recent budget with an aim to strengthen the skill sets among the students so that they are able to survive in the competitive and rapidly changing job market even while studying academics. The idea behind introducing the skill subjects of Fashion Studies, Financial Management, and Mechatronics is to integrate skill-based education with mainstream education which is in sync with the objectives of NEP 2020. In addition to this, teachers would also make sure that students understand the applicability of the skills that they acquire while studying these subjects which would discourage a culture of rote learning among students. Fashion Studies, Financial Management and Mechatronics will be offered in classes IX and X, while in XI and XII, they will only be taught Mechatronics. This type of skilling will enable the students to be ready for new-age jobs. The current faculty for vocational subjects will teach these three skill subjects to the students who enroll in SoALs.”
“As part of pursuing these skill courses, students would be taken for on-the-job training and internships in industries that are dedicated to retail, web application, etc,” informs Dalal.
