The Chinese embassy in India issued a press release over a media channel’s interview of Taiwan overseas minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, alleging that this “provided platform for him to advocate ‘Taiwan independence'”. In response, Taipei stated that India and Taiwan are democracies with free and vibrant presses.

It is of word that India follows the ‘One China policy’ vis-a-vis Taiwan and doesn’t have formal diplomatic ties with Taipei.

The assertion from the Chinese embassy learn: “On 29th February 2024, certain Indian TV broadcasted an interview with the head of Taiwan’s foreign affairs office Joseph Wu, which provided platform for him to advocate ‘Taiwan independence’ and disseminate false information. It seriously violated the one-China principle, and is totally unacceptable.”

It outlined the “One-China principle” as “There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is part of China, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.”

In response, Taiwan’s overseas ministry stated that India and Taiwan are each democracies with free and vibrant presses.

Taiwan requested Beijing to fear about its “economic slump, not bully its neighbours”.
